I am a PhD student in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at Case Western Reserve University. I joined the department in August of 2009 because I was extremely impressed by the complimentary and specialized methods used in the department to research the function of the body. I am excited about my project because I am learning a range of techniques from imaging, to molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell culture. Being a graduate student here exposes me to different disciplines of physiology and biomedical research from genomics, proteomics and computational modeling.
In the department, I have met highly motivated, yet very humble individuals. The faculty and the administrative staff have always been friendly and helpful. One of my biggest concerns when I joined the program was to manage being a PhD student and a mom of two toddlers. This concern immediately vanished when I realized how kind and supportive the department professors are. They always make themselves available to meet with students and advise them in their research. You feel like everybody here wants you to succeed. I am delighted to be a graduate student in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at Case. I know deep in my heart that the training I am receiving here is preparing me for my dream career – a professor in Physiology.
In the summer, I enjoy taking my kids outdoors. The park system in the Cleveland area is fantastic. Whether you like hiking, biking, or running you will definitely enjoy the numerous options that are available. During the winter, the Cleveland Zoo and rainforest, the indoor water resorts and the various museums are also very enjoyable places to spend the weekends.
